Comcast doing right?
Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 3:35AM So I wrote up an epic about this the night my router died and was too disheartened to try to recreate the brilliance of what I had created. So instead I will just type up a quick version.
So I recently got an email from Comcast letting me know that they have finally released their bandwidth monitor so that you cam keep track of how much usage you've done in a given month. I was all set to test out the acuracy of this tool by looking at how much bandwidth my router was reporting vs the new tool. Unfortunately my 1 1/2 year old Linksys 600N decided to screw the pooch and die. It wasn't reporting anything so I power cycled it, hoping it would clear the memory and start logging again. Instead it entered a continuous rebooting loop. I couldn't stop the loop or log into the router so I ended up buying a new one. (can't be without my internets).
So is Comcast finally waking up and doing the right thing by providing this long promised tool? I would say yes and no. Yes, this tool has needed to be available since they first started capping everyone at 250 GB of bandwidth. How else could you know that you were using too much before getting your service cut? Unfortunately the tool is buried on their website under your login and user / account or something. This should really be on the homepage when you log in or available as a widget you download.
My next concern is that 11 days into the month and the meter shows me at 80 GB of usage. At this rate I shouldn't hit the cap, but it won't take much more for me to start getting close. Comcast claims that the 250 GB is enough that 99.9% of their users will never reach the limit. While I may use more than an average person at the moment, I don't think this will last. I am just at the forefront of Internet usage. I believe more and more people will start using as much and more bandwidth as I am currently. I am buying games on steam and DLC on my Xbox. I watch movies via Netflix streaming and shows on Hulu. This is what leads me to my current high usage. As more high definition content becomes available and more things are put into the cloud, all or our daily Internet usage is going to increase. I hope Concast realizes this and revisits their idea of a cap on their "unlimited" service.
Hmmm. Maybe I should actually start a blog....

Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 9:22PM Hey everyone,
I just wanted to thank everyone who has already started checking out League of Legends in our effort to be the first group to get over 10,000 player on LoL so that we can design our own character. I just over a week we already have 59 people who have signed up and 2 who have made it past level 10!!! Keep it up. I am thinking of starting a thread in the Forums to keep track of our progress. Tell you friends!

LoL Update again. We are up to 79 accounts opened up. 3 of you have made it over lvl 10 and quite a few are moving up in the world. More than half of you are over lvl 4. Tell your friends. I think with enough momentum, we could get up to the 10,000 level in no time. It is a butterfly type effect. Each of you has a voice to many that don't yet listen to our show or play League of Legends. I've also seen some great ideas for a toon we could make.
You guys keep rolling along. We have 181 accounts started on LoL now. 24 of you have already hit level 10. That is really awesome. If the numbers keep climbing this fast, I am going to have to start coming up with ideas for the OnH toon... That will be a fun contest to figure out the look and abilities.
Good News Everyone!
