PS4 Review Part 1: DS4

I have recently purchased a PS4, so here is my take on this brand new generation. I will be splitting it into two segments.

First, let's talk about the controller.

I have had heard many people immediately jump to criticism about the giant light on the controller. Mostly things along the lines of "That looks way too distracting".

Well allow me to hopefully ease your fears about it. It is actually barely noticeable while playing unless you look directly at your hands. It is dim, so it does not light up the room. Not only that, it is at a downwards angle. With the light of your TV, you forget that this feature even exists.

It is more of just simply a symbol with what is happening in the game or on the PS4. Different games use the colors differently. For example, in Killzone: Shadow Fall, it flashes red when you are really hurt and glows a solid red when you die. In Thief, it glows Red when you are spotted. It also indicates players on the controller. Player One is Blue, Player Two is red, Player Three is Green and Player Four is Pink.

L2 and R2 now have a slight curve, forming comfortable little triggers. It definitely makes shooters more enjoyable and comfortable. Something that the Xbox controller had on Playstation's for a long time. It is nice to see that they have adapted this simple little feature onto the Dualshocks.

The touch pad is really quite simple. So far it has been utilized for just weapon and tool selecting. It is quite handy to quickly get to what you need. I'm curious to see what else they will use this for in the future. It seems as if it will be basically a replacement for the select button since they now have added the share button to the controller as well. I will get more into the Share aspect in the next segment when I talk about the system itself.

Underneath of the touch pad is a little speaker, which lets out noises to bring the experience closer to you. In Killzone, you hear the audio logs through it. In Knack, you hear the soft clinking of collecting relics and sunstones. It sounds like it would be annoying but it is in fact a really cool little feature.

Below the PS button is a port that gives you the option of hooking up a mic to it. Similar to the Xbox 360's controller.

The controller has also been beefed up a bit with added texture, making a longer gaming session easier and more comfortable because it keeps your hands cooler and it doesn't get all slippery. It curves nicely to your grip as well, fitting almost perfectly in one's hands. The shortened analog sticks feel much smoother and in control than the Dualshock 3.

This controller is, in my opinion, by far the most comfortable controller I've ever handled. Everything about it was upgraded from it's predecessors. All other controllers now feel cheap and rough after I've been spoiled with the DS4 for only these past couple of weeks.

*Note* I have not tried the Xbox One controller yet to have been able to feel any differences to be able to compare the two for you. In due time I will and I'm sure that, as with the past, they both are going to fit different people's tastes differently.

I think I covered everything that I wanted to. So if you happen to have any other questions about it, feel free to fire away and I will answer them for you to the best of my ability. I hope this review was found useful!

Indeed Post-It: Sim Life and Death

Another Wednesday, another Post-it.   Today we look at conquering that little guy feeling.   The one where you feel that work is all around you which has a wicked vendetta against you.  Kinda like some of your Exes.  But there are a few games which allow us to be the big guy.  To push the path of destiny for others.  To play God, in a round and about way.
I recently purchased a game called Banished from Steam.  A Sim with deals with the hardships of a township startup.   This is one of the games with life and death play a pretty big role in the development of the Sims and every decision you make impacts them for the good or bad.  This is in the same flow as Children of the Nile, but in Egyptian

The Android Realm App Review A Better Camera

![][1]

Do you like HTC's Zoey feature? Want Samsung's auto-removal feature? Love HDR pictures and panoramsas? A Better Camera can help you with all of the above!

Rather than have multiple apps to have all these features or be limited to specific devices, the developer has created an "all-in-one" app to use your device's camera capabilities to provide these features. To start, the camera has basic functions like a single shot camera, panorama mode, and a video camera to help get used to the controls and navigation around this app. Other features like burst mode, group mode and night mode are available for general use photos.

Gaming Related

I'm contractually obligated by RivalCast Media to create at least some content related to video games while I'm doing this blog thing. Problem is, it's difficult to talk about games when I haven't had much time to play them. I've managed about one hour of game time in the past week, and all of that […]

The Geek I/O Show: Episode 50 - Two Terabytes of Ice Dancing... with Andy Young

On this, the 50th episode of the Geek I/O show, we were joined by our favorite smackdown auctioneer, Andy Young (aka Ghomus)! He tried to keep us on track, but his attempts were futile. We appreciate him trying though. We discussed Andy's spiffy new job, going Starbound in a War of Omens, Samsung toys, playing with the Marvel API, breaking out the old Nintendo systems for "testing", the best pasta, the key to success is the bobsled Bane mask, old man Dale gets into shape, Crock-a-Dale Dundee, iTunes radio ambient space music, the "Ibbott package", rolling up your windows is harder than it looks, filling your hard drive with more Olympics than you ever want to watch, and networking shenanigans. Plus! We talk about the Sonic the Hedgehog reboot and how hot it is in February! Join us on The Geek I/O Show, won't you? We love Michelob at midnight. Indeed Post-It : Opportunity

There was a letter I read recently that said:

Dear, Optimist, Pessimist, and Realist,
While you guys were busy arguing about the glass of water, I drank it.
                                                              Sincerely,
                                                       The Opportunist

So this got me thinking about the bickering that happens during game play.  I have been playing Smite, which you should totally try out and join the VtWGaming Clan, and seen this battle of opinions rain out on the battlefield. To my amazement that the solution is just to win your match just like in other games.  Now we see this on LoL, WoW, Civ V and … well, plenty of others.  I understand we all have a perspective on the way people should play a game.    It is a balance of understanding the

How It Stacks #19 - Crocodile Dundee I & II

"Heh. That's not a knife... this, is a knife!" In this gloriously down-under episode, the How It Stacks crew sneak up on both Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2. They start off with a glorious versus battle royal, in which they pit Dundee against John McClane, then against Snake Plisken. JD shares his worship of Crocodile Dundee and acknowledges how very pimp he was and is still. Bulldog believes that Dundee missed his calling as a wrestler. Professor Willis keeps the fact bombs coming. Bulldog and Professor Willis makes some awesome points during a Terminator and Dundee debate. Finally this show gets crazy as they dive right back into the 80s and make some awesome jokes about the massive stereotypes the 80's brought us! You don't want to miss this one… it goes for yonks!! Attention Surplus Disorder

I'm a supporter of marriage equality, in that I strongly believe that same-sex couples should be granted the same legal rights and privileges that heterosexual couples have. With the Supreme Court overturning the Defense of Marriage Act and California's ban on same-sex marriage, as well as federal judges overturning bans in conservative states like Utah […]

The Android Realm Game Review Dungeon Keeper

Do you like the idea of building your own lair? Want a fun and lighthearted tower defense game? Dungeon Keeper may be the game for you!

After installing the game, there may be an additional download for extra content so be sure to be on Wifi to account for this. Players can also login to their Google+ account to be on Google Play leaderboards for achievements as well.

Once the player gets into the game proper, there is a brief tutorial on how to build the lair, get workers to destroy blocks, attacking & defending with enemeies, etc. Once complete, the user can then build up their lair to expand their area for more collection items like stones, gems, etc.

For easy comparison, the game is similar to Farmville or games of that style but with cartoonish demons and lighthearted dark theme.

The Android Realm App Review Muzei Live Wallpaper

Do you like changing your wallpaper based on your mood? Do you like quality art from famous painters as your wallpaper? Then the new app called [Muzei Live Wallpaper][1] may be for you!

Use of the app is very straightforward. Everyday, a new image is loaded from [http://www.wikipaintings.org/][2]. From there the user can set how sharp or blurry the wallpaper should look along with how bright or dim the image should be. These settings are basically there to help the user decide how they want the wallpaper to look with on-screen icons and widgets. The app also lets users select their own images (or image directory) which changes every so often automatically.

The Android Realm App Review Galaxy Parallax

This "app" nicely takes the parallax effect from iOS and brings it to Android as a live wallpaper. The app drawer settings button lets users set the frame rate, quantity of star, color among many other settings. From there, the user clicks on set wallpaper to go set the wallpaper and that is it. While parallax is nothing new, the shifty live wallpaper is pretty and provides minute changes at a very smooth resolution.

Indeed Post-It: Legacy.

Today I write this one with a heavy heart.  Granted there is still a mid-week lesson to be learned.  However, still a hard one.
Yesterday I had to go to the hospital to say goodbye for the last time to a friend and a co-worker for many years.  She was always my fall back gal for programming needs and when I needed a fresh direction to the project that we worked on together.  She wasn’t the most skilled in computers, but she was a past manager and could see things from a unique perspective.  Both her and I trained as teachers in college but ended up in the food industry as managers.  From there we each worked our way to a corporate office where our skills help drive new programs in restaurant management.  After her fight with cancer, she has found herself on the losing battle and time is now against her.  When she left in December last year, I never thought of the fact that I would not see her back at work again.  It was always, “We will manage until she gets back.”  Which I did.  I was her computer guy and was willing to step it up until she returns.   Now, she will not do so.

TomBadguy.com Says Good-bye

Hey everyone -

Just giving you guys a heads up of what has been going on as of late. Let me be straight forward to start(I wouldn't think you guys would expect any less from me), TomBadguy.com will be no more. I have decided to combine my efforts with VTW Productions. Starting now, all my content will now be placed on VTW instead of here. Of course, I will leave this site up and everyone can still scroll through and check out all the content I've done over the last couple of years. If you want to see new content, head over to [www.VtWProductions.com][1]. No content has really been posted recently due to this change and working on the new VTW website. I felt consolidating efforts into one website rather than two works better for me. Plus, who wouldn't want to work with the great folks over at VTW?

I've had a great run with everything here. Pretty much I'm going to let the website run with the tombadguy.com domain until it expires, then it be back to the blogspot.com domain. I'm also not sure if I'm going to transfer the current content over to VTW(more than likely I will, that would make the most sense).

the most sense).

So, come by new VTW home to check out my continuing work. VTW is also a site using Blogger to please subscribe to the Blogger Feed! And as always, you can be notified about all my new posts just by following me on Twitter. My continuous content on VTW will be:

- Reviews
- Tales or Relevant Thought
- 5 Reasons 2 Hate
- And whatever else I come up with!

Thanks for all comments and support everyone, I really appreciate it! I hope you continue to follow me as a transition to a new web chapter in my life...yeah, that sounded as gay as I thought.

How It Stacks #18: Clue (Board Game [1986] and Movie [1985])

Sorry for the delayed post everyone, someone killed our hosting access, it took us a week to figure it out but finally the truth is revealed: It was Scarlet in the Library with the Rope!!! That should give it away but in the case it doesn't… The How It Stacks trio is stacking Clue! Both the game and the movie. The guys and their gals (Mrs. JD and Mrs. Bulldog) got together and played clue live at the Coffee Loft (local coffee shop) and had a epic game that came down to the wire where Bulldog showed his true loyalty [just kidding Bulldog] It was full of one liners by Professor Willis and some half way decent quips by JD. Trivia wars is almost over as the Professor tries to get caught up to JD. While Bulldog needs just one more win to be tied but things get a little heated during this one as both combatants give it their all!! As for the show, it's a unique one for the guys as they cover a

The Android Realm App Review - EverythingMe Launcher

Getting new content without moving away from the stock Android experience has generally been a difficult process. While launchers solve the homescreen solution for organizing apps with apps and widgets helping with content, merging the two is always difficult. EverythingMe solves this by providing the context right from your homescreen.

After installation, a brief walkthrough shows the features it adds to a stock Android launcher experience. The feature brought forward from other launchers is to customize the number of homescreens but here is where this launcher parts ways. The folder system is an enhanced to be more than just groups of apps. Dragging two apps together will create a group of similar apps installed and recommended website and other apps. For example, creating a folder with Pandora and Pocket Casts will add other apps like Google Play Music and Shazaam with links to sites like SoundCloud and Lyrics.com.

The Android Realm Game Review Flappy Bird

Do you find Jetpack Joyride too much of a game? Love the classic Super Mario Bros look and feel? Flappy Bird can fix this need!

The basic concept of the game is straightforward. The player must navigate the bird up and down between a series of tubes. Tubes are static but are on the top and bottom of the screen. The opening between the tubes remains the same but the location of the opening varies. The game ends when the bird hits a tube or the player is unable to keep the bird flying. To keep the bird flying, the player only needs to tap the screen. Aside from that there are no other controls so remember or worry about.

Terrible Tuesday Movie Night: Episode 20: "Birdemic: Shock and Terror"

On this episode of Terrible Tuesday Movie Night, Dale analyses the 2010 "pre-curser to Sharknato" Birdemic or as it is fully known as Birdemic: Shock and Terror.
A platoon of eagles and vultures attacks the residents of a small town. Many people die. It's not known what caused the flying menace to attack.
**Starting:**
Alan Bagh - Rod
Whitney Moore - Nathalie
Janae Caster - Susan
Colton Osborne - Tony
